Psychology Internship and Residency Training Programs
Welcome to Florida Department of Corrections Psychology Training website!
As the largest agency in the state and the third largest corrections agency in the nation, the Florida Department of Corrections has more than 25,000 employees serving a critical need in society. We are responsible for the incarceration of approximatelt 94,000 inmates and supervises nearly 161,000 offenders in the community. We strive to be a national pacesetter among government and criminal justice agencies and we are committed to successful re-entry and evidenced-based practices in correctional institutions, community corrections and central administration.
Our doctoral internship and postdoctoral residency provides students with a meaningful professional experiential learning opportunity within the field of corrections. Our staff works collectively with students to structure learning experiences that integrate knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in professional correctional work settings.
Our interns will have the opportunity to treat patients from across the full breadth of our inmate population. Our patients include minimum, medium and close custody as well as close management offenders. Residents may work with inmates with a variety of physical ailments and impairments, including chronic, progressive disorders, and visual, hearing, and ambulation limitations. Interns and residents will also care for incarcerated patients who suffer from a wide array of mental disorders, ranging from serious, chronic mental illness and progressive disorders, to transient crisis based disturbances.
